National Recognition

NATIONALLY-RECOGNIZED:

March 2011 – The Congressional Medal of Honor Foundation honored Christine Umayam as one of 20 finalists in the country for the ‘Citizen Service Before Self Honors’ award, which recognizes and honors ordinary Americans who become extraordinary through their indomitable courage and selflessness.

Medal of Honor recipients picked Umayam amoung hundreds of nominations.  She is one of ten people chosen in her category by the foundation.

They say she was recognized for changing the lives of the world’s poorest children by offering education opportunities and breaking the poverty cycle.

“Christine Umayam of Lynnwood, Washington has been recognized for changing the lives of the worlds poorest children by offering education opportunities and breaking the poverty cycle. In 2007, she founded Child United, an international relief organization, dedicated to leading the poorest children in the developing world out of poverty by empowering them through education so they may have better futures. Umayam has helped thousands of the poorest children, who are susceptible to sex trafficking and child labor, by sponsoring children who want to learn, building learning centers and sending educational supplies abroad.  Christine Umayam’s dedication to improving the lives of children all over the world continues to be an inspiration and a credit to the state of Washington and to her fellow Americans.”
